Student Minister Position Available

About Sharon Baptist Church

Located in North Knoxville, Sharon Baptist serves a growing community and is committed to worship, discipleship, and outreach. Our Student Ministry is an essential part of that vision.

As part of our team, you’ll minister to students from K-12th grade, invest in the next generation, and shape lives for the Gospel.

Sharon has served our community for over 150 years, and we desire to be an even greater positive impact on our local schools, neighborhoods, and the people who live in them.

Staff longevity is a real strength of Sharon Baptist Church. Our current Senior Pastor has served in the position for over 17 years. His predecessor served for over 30 years and still attends and serves as our Pastor Emeritus. Our former Associate Pastor served for nine years before retiring. Our current Associate Pastor has been serving at Sharon since 2013 (as Student Pastor until 2025). This creates real generational ties to the church body and community. Sharon loves investing in its staff by allowing space and opportunities for continuing education. Our Senior Pastor is very supportive of the staff, does not believe in micro-managing, and welcomes input and collaboration from the staff.

Children’s Ministry

The Children’s Ministry at Sharon Baptist Church is currently led by a group of hard-working volunteers. This includes a Children’s Ministry Director who oversees the Wednesday night programming as well as special events such as Fall Festivals, Easter Egg Hunts, etc.

It also includes an AWANA Commander. Sharon has a strong AWANA program that meets on Sunday evenings during the school year. Between 60-80 kids attend the AWANA program weekly.

Additionally, we have a VBS Director who plans and executes a Vacation Bible School during either the month of June or July.

Finally, we have volunteers who serve in a variety of ways, whether that be teaching Sunday School, leading Children’s Church, or volunteering on Wednesday or Sunday night ministry programming.

Our vision for the new Student Minister is to work with these leaders to ensure they are properly equipped and encouraged, and that all facets of the Children’s Ministry are operating under a cohesive strategy that effectively ministers to (and disciples) our K-5th graders.

Youth Ministry

The Youth Ministry at Sharon Baptist Church has been built upon the concept of “Our primary goal is to worship God and mature in our faith, let’s have fun while we do that” as opposed to “Let’s have fun, and try to grow in our faith along the way”. Due to that, a focus on worship, preaching, and discipleship have been the primary ingredients to the on-campus meeting times.

Currently, the youth meet on Wednesday nights (year-round) and Sunday nights (during the school year). Typically speaking, one meeting focuses more on strategic discipling and deepening faith, and one meeting is more focused on evangelistic teaching. Both tend to include aspects of worship through song. Sharon is blessed to have the availability of our Music Minister to lead the youth in worship. Once a month, on Sunday evenings, the youth also serve in the local community at such venues as nursing homes or parks. The youth ministry averages between 15-30 6-12th graders.

Throughout the year, the Youth Ministry participates in such events like: D-NOW, YEC, Mission FUGE, and fun community-building events.

Our vision for the new Student Minister is to take the foundation of the student ministry and elevate it to the next level. This might be by building on what has already been happening, or by making strategic changes. There are no sacred cows. We recognize that student ministry is a very relational job, and we want someone who is willing to spend time on school campuses or at student events and not just at their desk at the church office.
